Third Grade

Welcome to Third Grade at Thomas!

What an awesome grade to be in!  We will be studying and working on many new things this year.  Third grade is a year of transition from the development of skills to the development of independence.  We move from reading picture books to chapter or novel type books.  We draw conclusions and use context clues to figure out word meanings.  We start using cursive handwriting.  Problem solving in Math is a very important part of our curriculum.  We use higher level thinking skills to solve math problems in more complex ways.  Third graders are always excited about learning multiplication facts.  Science is fun with the different experiments and activities that we do.  This year is a time for students to begin assuming responsibility for their education and become life-long learners.  This year, we have departmentalized our third grade classes so students have two teachers, one for language arts, reading, and social studies, and another for math and science.
