HI! I am Amy Kasberg. I am the reading intervention teacher for kinder-2nd grade. I have three children who were all Thomas Texans. My youngest daughter is a sophomore at Abilene High School and my other two children are grown and live in Abilene and Ft. Worth. My husband works for Graybar Electric. We love Thomas Elementary and Abilene, Texas. Thomas is a great school and I’m proud to call it my school home!

My name is Debbi Miller. I have had the privilege of working in the Abilene Independent School District for 31 years. I’ve taught at Crockett, Jane Long, Bassetti, and Thomas. I am married to Mike, and we have two sons Brandon- who is engaged to Erin, and Brady. I am still proud to be a part of AISD.

Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is a program designed to give additional assistance to students in reading. It is provided to Thomas Elementary with Title 1 funds. This program is for first and second graders. We meet every day in small groups for thirty minutes.

We work on the following skills:

  • Comprehension-understanding what we read
  • Accuracy-reading words accurately
  • Fluency-reading accurately, with expression, and reading at the rate we
    speak
  • Writing-writing about the books we have read
  •  We learn strategies that help us with each of these areas.
