Nurse

Hello. My name is Miranda Waldron. I am so proud to be the school nurse at Allie Ward! My husband, three wonderful children and I moved to Abilene in 2017.  I graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor school of nursing in 2007. I have worked as a registered nurse at Driscoll Children’s hospital, Cook Children’s Hospital, and most recently Pediatric Associates of Abilene. I am excited to bring my experience to the students at Ward.  My goal is to provide a holistic and family centered approach to your child’s school health. Thank you for trusting me with your children.    

HEALTH EDUCATION AND SCREENINGS THAT OCCUR DURING OUR SCHOOL YEAR:  

-State mandated screenings include Heights, Weights, Hearing, Vision, and Blood Pressure for all students in KG, 1st, 3rd, 5th and new students to AISD (Abilene Independent School District).  

-State mandated scoliosis screenings for all 5th grade girls. Boys will be screened in middle School. 

-Always Changing Health Class is for all of 5th grade. Boys and girls are separated and will watch a video that focuses on the normal body changes during puberty. As a parent, you can opt out of this. Watch for a letter to go home with your student. 

-GloGerm presentation is provided by ExpressER for all students. Students are taught how to properly wash their hands. Each student is able to see how well they can remove all the germs from their hands. 

-Oral hygiene education is provided for all KG. Each student is sent home with their very own toothbrush and toothpaste.  

HEALTH HISTORY 

 – Please notify me of any health changes.  

-Action Plans for asthma, allergies, and seizures must be filled out by doctor EACH SCHOOL YEAR. 

ILLNESS:  

– Your student must have a fever less than 100 degrees and no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours OR a doctor’s note before returning to school.  

-Call the nurse with any questions or concerns.  

IMMUNIZATION RECORDS: 

-Must have shot records at the time of enrollment.  

-If your child receives immunizations during the year, please bring a copy to the front office or email it to me.  

MEDICATIONS:  

-Please notify me of any medication changes for your student.  

-Any medication that needs to be given during school hours, must be given by the nurse or a parent. NO MEDICATIONS SHOULD BE BROUGHT IN BACKPACKS.
