Abilene ISD is excited to announce the next chapter of one of its most unique learning opportunities for elementary students. The Center for Innovation is expanding into the Center for Arts and Innovation (CAI), a newly enhanced program designed for high-achieving 5th-grade students.

This expansion introduces a dedicated fine arts pathway, allowing students to explore art, theatre, dance, and music while continuing a strong foundation in STEM and advanced academics. The Center for Arts & Innovation is an application-based magnet program that blends critical thinking with creative expression in a hands-on learning environment.

Students will participate in advanced and accelerated coursework in math and science, along with daily fine arts instruction and opportunities for small-group and studio-based learning tailored to their interests. The program is led by experienced Abilene ISD educators and offers additional enrichment through community partnerships and an immersive learning environment on the McMurry University campus.

Beyond the classroom, students will engage in unique experiences through partnerships with organizations such as the Abilene Philharmonic, The Grace Museum, and Young Audiences, further enhancing both academic and creative growth.

Applications for the 2026–27 school year will be open April 1 through April 15. Families interested in this innovative opportunity are encouraged to learn more about the program and application process.
