Abilene ISD Logo

Beginning Sept. 1, parents and guardians will need to give written consent before Abilene ISD can provide routine health services for students. This change comes from Senate Bill 12 (SB 12), passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session.

What does this mean for families? Without a signed Routine Health Services Consent Form, our school nurses, counselors, and athletic trainers won’t be able to provide basic care like:

  • Applying a bandage

  • Giving over-the-counter medicine

  • Helping with a wellness check

These supports can only be given in an emergency if the form is not on file.

Guidance lessons offered by school counselors do not require consent, but parents will still receive notification about the programming. Details are available in the FAQs on our Routine Health Services webpage.

To make sure your child can continue receiving these important services at school, please complete the consent form by Monday, Sept. 1. A separate form is needed for each student in your household.

Thank you for working with us to keep students safe, healthy, and supported every day.
