As part of its Building Brighter Futures strategic planning initiative, Abilene ISD has launched a Call for Quality Schools, inviting eligible organizations to propose innovative school models that expand access to high-quality education across the district.
Through this initiative, AISD is exploring the possibility of implementing a partner-managed school model under the state’s S.B. 1882 legislation and the Texas Education Agency’s School Action Fund. If selected, a partner organization would operate an Abilene ISD campus under contract, with the district maintaining oversight and accountability.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, government entities, and institutions of higher education.
The district has identified early learning, advanced academics, and high-quality elementary school models as priority areas for potential partnerships, in response to community input and a recent quality seats analysis. Similar models have seen success across Texas, including in Fort Worth ISD, where the district operates a leadership academy network of five campuses through a partnership with Texas Wesleyan University. Similarly, in Midland ISD, a partnership with Midland College addresses regional early childhood education needs through the operation of a pre-k academy.
“This Call for Quality Schools reflects our Building Brighter Futures vision by inviting bold, student-centered ideas into the conversation,” Executive Director of Innovation and Program Development Jay Ashby said. “It’s one of several ways we’re exploring innovative options to better serve Abilene students and families.”
As AISD continues to explore potential partnerships, the district will provide additional ways for the community to stay informed and offer feedback.
