The students of Lee Elementary demonstrate their leadership skills through school-wide leadership roles.

For the 2017-18 school year, students had the opportunity to apply for 12 different leadership roles including Junior Lighthouse Team, Poster Committee, Safety Patrol, Set-up Crew, Box Tops Team, Birthday Patrol, Green Team, Lost and Found, LRC Helpers, Workroom Helpers, Spirit Squad and Dream Team. As staff members facilitate all student leadership roles, each of these teams assists with tasks around the school and contribute to the leadership environment at Lee.

The Safety Patrol consists of 18 fifth graders that help ensure students’ safety as they arrive and leave the campus each day. After an application process, selected students receive training from the Dyess Honor Guard on proper flag procedures for raising, lowering and folding the flags.

Patrols also train on procedures to ensure safety as they monitor crosswalks and assist with the drive thru lane. Students complete morning and afternoon duties. Morning patrols arrive to school no later than 7:15. Their duties include raising the flags onto the flagpole, monitoring crosswalks for pedestrians, stopping cars in the drive thru lane to allow cars to drop off student and opening car doors for those students.

Afternoon duties include retrieving the flags from the pole, monitoring crosswalks for pedestrians, stopping cars in the drive thru lane to allow parents to pick up students, and opening car doors for those students. Every six weeks, new patrols are selected to be captain or lieutenant to lead the efforts of the safety patrol and for additional leadership building opportunities.
