In a special called meeting held at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, the Abilene ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Dr. John Kuhn the new Superintendent of Schools for Abilene ISD. The Board’s official approval action was taken after the conclusion of a state-mandated 21-day contract negotiation waiting period.

“It is a tremendous privilege to join the teachers, staff, and families of Abilene ISD on their mission to equip our students to achieve their brightest futures,” said Dr. Kuhn. “My goal is to ensure that every AISD student is cared for and has the opportunity to discover their full potential every day.”

Prior to joining Abilene ISD, Dr. Kuhn most recently served as Superintendent of Schools for Mineral Wells ISD. His 27-year career in public education also includes serving as superintendent of Perrin-Whitt CISD and as a high school principal, assistant principal, teacher, and bus driver in the Mineral Wells and Graford Independent School Districts. Dr. Kuhn is a dedicated advocate for students and families in Texas and brings proven expertise in improving student outcomes and innovative school leadership to AISD.
