Many of you have inquired about picking up your student’s essential personal items that where left at school during this time of separation.  First, let me say thank you for your patience in this process.  We know how important these items are to you and your student and greatly appreciate your understanding as we navigate through this time.

Over the upcoming week, coaches and fine arts teachers will begin collecting personal items from lockers and preparing them for return.  All personal items in lockers will be placed in plastic bags, labeled and alphabetized in specific locations.  Pick up of these items will be drive through delivery style.  Staff members will assist parents and students by bringing personal items out to their vehicle.  Throughout the collection and the delivery process, all staff members will practice proper social distancing to ensure that this process is done in a safe manner for all.

Your student may have items in their classrooms.  We ask that you allow us to limit the collection of these items to essential items only (clothing, backpacks, glasses).  Please contact me at 325- 692- 1961 ext. 7341 to request items for pick up from classrooms.

In addition to picking up essential personal items, your student may have items that need to be returned to school.  These items can be dropped off while you are picking up your student’s personal items.

The following times will be used when picking up and dropping off items.

    • Tuesday, May 19 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
      •  Students with last names A through F

      • Students with last names M through R

The following locations will be used to pick up and return specific items.

    • The main office of campus will be used to pick up general items as well as medications.
    • The main East gym door will be used to pick up and drop off any items relating to girls’ athletics and girls’ PE.
    • The Fine Arts doors between the band hall and art room will be used to pick up and drop off any items
    • The outside doors to the boys’ locker room in the back parking lot of the school will be used to pick up and drop off any items relating to boys’ athletics and boys’ PE.

We look forward to completing this process and appreciate your assistance in helping to ensure that each step is done in the safest way possible.  Thank you again for your patience and understanding.  Have a safe day and remain healthy.

Facts About Absenteeism:

  • Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school
  • Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back
  • By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
  • Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
  • When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
