Krista MillerNAME:  Krista Miller

DEPARTMENT/CAMPUS: Clack Middle School

TITLE:  Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)/Reading Improvement Teacher

YEARS WITH AISD:  8 years

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU ATTEND?  I was born in Amarillo but moved to Abilene during elementary school.  I do consider Abilene my home.  I received my Bachelor of Behavioral Science degree in Psychology from Hardin-Simmons University and received my Master of Science degree in Psychology from Abilene Christian University.

TELLS US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY:  My police officer husband, Jeff, and I have been married for six years and have six children between the two of us.  My oldest son, Adam, is a Reservist in the United States Marine Corps, works, and attends Cisco College.  My youngest son, Nathan, is a freshman at Cooper High School and plays soccer.

TELL US SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOURSELF:  I began teaching at 40 years old!  I always said I would never be a teacher because I grew up with a teacher mother and witnessed her long hours, weekends changing out bulletin boards, and constant grading of papers.  However, due to an unexpected life change, I decided to obtain my teaching certificate, and my only regret is I didn’t do it sooner!  I can’t imagine doing anything else!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?   My favorite part of my job is building relationships with my students. I love getting to know my students’ quirks, interests, and what makes them tick.  I enjoy that every day is a different day in the classroom. I enjoy the students’ curiosity, laughter and honesty.  Most of all, I enjoy getting to be a part of my students’ journey through life, and hopefully, making some small impact or memory that might make a difference.

WHAT THE BOSS SAYS ABOUT HER: “Krista Miller is the perfect teammate. Rarely absent, versatile, focused, positive, and fearless in every situation. She is the teacher that will take the most challenging situation and turn it into a cakewalk. More than likely she is a ninja in her spare time.” – Todd Bramwell, Principal, Clack Middle School
