Area veterans and active duty military personnel were the special guests May 19 at the annual “I Love America Day” at Dyess Elementary School.

This year’s performance is entitled “I Love America 2017 – “Leading the Way to Liberty” highlighted leaders in America from our Founding Fathers to everyday Americans. The program featured fifth graders dressed as Founding Fathers and Mothers and included a salute to current and former members of the Armed Forces. The entire school joined in to sing patriotic songs and wave flags in celebration of America.

Due to approaching severe weather, including a tornado warning in the Dyess area, this year’s performance included a impromptu “intermission.” The show went on after the warning was lifted; however, the nasty weather forced the annual parade in front of the campus to be cancelled.
