A full day of science education and special outdoor activities just for girls was offered on Saturday, April 29, through a partnership between Abilene ISD, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Master Naturalists.

With a focus on encouraging girls to develop a love for science, about 90 elementary students from Bowie and Jackson Elementary Schools headed to Lake Abilene for this special, one-day opportunity in canoeing, kayaking, nature photography, seining, fishing and archery.

The field trip culminated AISD’s Texas Parks and Wildlife Wonder in Nature grant, which has provided outdoor experiences this school year for more than 1,000 AISD elementary students from seven campuses. Next year, the other seven elementary campuses from AISD will participate in outdoor, hands-on adventures led by Park Rangers and Master Naturalists.
