Some very savvy second-graders at Lee Elementary School turned their recent economics lesson on consumers and producers into a real-life project to help the community.

Students from the school’s four second-grade classes made key chains, produced their own video commercial and then sold their creations for $2 each at the school’s recent Spring Carnival.

More importantly, the project culminated with a donation to a local non-profit that provides a shelter for homeless families.

Officials from Hope Haven accepted about $600 in proceeds raised from the students’ project on May 16.
