On Friday, Oct. 6, Communities in Schools, the Abilene Christian University Department of Engineering, and the Academy of Technology, Engineering, Math & Science teamed up to provide a unique STEM experience to approximately 185 ATEMS students through the nationally recognized program “Roadtrip Nation.”

The organization Roadtrip Nation produces the public television documentary series by the same name. The show’s crew members travel across the United States talking with individuals who have experienced success in their careers and then share that message of success and opportunity with young people.

While in Abilene, incorporated content from Roadtrip Nation’s PBS documentary series “A Balanced Equation” along with inspiring stories from “Roadies” as part of an interactive tour of their big green RV.

The purpose of the showcase is to expose students to STEM career pathways and lead activities designed to give the students the self-assurance and skills they need to reach out to people in the Abilene community and beyond who are successful in STEM careers.

Through their partnership with the National Communities In Schools Office, CIS of the Big Country was able to reach out to ATEMS and then partner with the ACU Department of Engineering to provide this interactive STEM based experience.

CIS of the Big Country is a proud partner of Abilene ISD and, in addition to their support of ATEMS, is currently serving in two AISD high schools and all four of their middle schools. Roadtrip Nation is only one of the great assets CIS of the Big Country has brought to local students.
