Two Cooper High School students joined Career & Technical Education students from across the state for the SkillsUSA Texas Legislative Day held Feb. 11-12 in Austin.
Sophomore Nathaniel Morris and freshman Dillon Otero accompanied CHS Information Technology teacher Roger Hall for the event, which featured lectures, lessons in parliamentary procedures, mock debates and meetings with legislators.
The highlighting the educational trip came Monday morning when students debated two issues on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives. After researching topics, two mock bills about lowering the age to receive a driver’s license and free college tuition for high-demand occupations were presented and debated by the attendees.
Students also toured the state capitol and visited with legislators from their home district about CTE issues.
