Students in Cooper High School’s Art and Photography classes have been learning about the elements and principles of design. Portraits, sculptures, still life, and digital art and media have been exhibited in recent shows and competitions.

On Feb. 3, art and photography students traveled to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls to participate in 27th Annual High School Art Competition. A total of 44 works from CHS students were exhibited in the show along with works from students throughout the state.

Recognitions for Cooper students included one first place, three second places, and seven honorable mention awards in a variety of categories.

In addition, photography students were recognized with three Silver Key awards and two honorable mention awards in the January Scholastic Art and Writing Competition.

There are two upcoming opportunities to view the work of these talented young artists. Abilene ISD students will have work included in the Youth Art Month celebration February 22- March 22 at The Grace Museum. The opening reception will be will be on February 22 from 5:30 pm to 7 pm.

The work of AISD Advanced Placement art and photography students will be exhibited in the Abilene Education Foundation’s Young Masters Juried Art Exhibition March 30 – April 14th at The Grace Museum. The scholarship and awards reception will be March 29 at 5:30 pm.
