WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU ATTEND? I was born and raised in Abilene, TX. I attended Bowie, Jefferson and Cooper High School. CHS class of 1986.
TELLS US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY: I have been married for 26 years to my awesome husband, Tim Harris. We have two beautiful, talented, smart, fabulous girls. Kiley, 21, is a senior at the University of Texas in Austin. She is a marketing student with the McCombs Business School at UT. Kaitlyn, 19, is a sophomore at the University of Texas in Austin. Kaitlyn is also a studying Business at the McCombs Business School. Both of our girls are successful products of Abilene ISD. They attended Jackson, Madison and Cooper.
TELL US SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOURSELF: I started with Abilene ISD my senior year of high school as a co-op Student at the Maintenance Department. I worked one year as a co-op student, two years in the AISD Print Shop, two years as secretary for Dr. Polnick and Mr. Glover, 11 years at Fair Park as receptionist, records and speech secretary, one year at Valley View as school secretary and then 17 years at Johnston Elementary as school secretary. My hobbies are fishing, vinyl’ing, sleeping and hanging out with my family.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB? I love everything about my job! Every day is a new day at Johnston Elementary. I enjoy the public relations with special guest, parents and my co-workers. I have been at Johnston so long that some of my former students have children of their own attending Johnston now. I get “Mrs. Rhonda, you’re STILL HERE” a lot from former students and parents! I love when I see one of my kiddo’s in public. They are amazed that I have a life outside of the school building! I have been blessed beyond measure of the acquaintances and friends that I call family over the past 33 years. I have literally grown up in AISD from student, to employee.
WHAT HER BOSS SAYS ABOUT HER: “I welcome the opportunity to spotlight a wonderful person who is truly one of the most vital members of the Johnston staff. Rhonda is the heartbeat that keeps our school running smoothly on a daily basis. She is excellent at her job and has the knowledge and experience to deal with many things at one time. Her days are filled with phone calls, helping visitors and staff, completing paperwork and serving our students. She accomplishes all this with efficiency and grace.
