Geri Davis-Roy, an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor at Abilene ISD’s Adult Education Center, was recently invited to participate in the TELL TX (Teaching English Language Learners in Texas) Academy.

Ms. Roy was identified as her adult English literacy students have performance averages above the state average. The TELL TX Academy is a year-long project that includes four one-day, face-to-face meetings, classroom implementation and four webinars between face-to-face meetings.  The goal of this of the project is to develop a cadre of ESL teachers and trainers who can help other ESL instructors in Adult Education and Literacy to improve their student outcomes.  This state initiative is a combined effort between the Texas Workforce Commission, the Department of Adult Education & Literacy, and the TRAIN PD Center at the Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning (TCALL).”

Geri Davis-Roy is a long-time teacher in AISD and taught primarily as a 5th grade teacher at Alta Vista Elementary before joining Adult Ed.
