Abilene High School and Cooper High School band students competed in the University Interscholastic League Region Solo and Ensemble competition on Feb. 18, at Abilene Wylie High School, and 14 Abilene ISD soloists and six ensembles qualified for the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, scheduled for May 29 in Pflugerville.

STATE SOLO QUALIFIERS

Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo from Abilene High were sophomore Stephen Griffith (oboe), senior Isaac Trinidad (bassoon), freshman Renee Barber (clarinet), junior Sydney Spell (clarinet), sophomore Lianna Pfrimmer (French horn), freshman Anson Cobarruvias (trombone), junior Mallory Traylor (keyboard percussion), and senior Nathan Wilson (keyboard percussion). 

Qualifying for the UIL state contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo from Cooper were senior Aaron Brokovich (marimba), sophomore Micah Gonzalez (marimba), junior Aaron Reece (French horn), sophomore Max Parker (marimba), sophomore Davian Sansom (marimba), and junior Logan Wyatt (snare drum).

STATE ENSEMBLE QUALIFIERS

Qualifying for state by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 ensemble from Abilene High were Caleb Bailey, Duke Decker, Vivian Dyer, Mason Einkauf, Tate Eller, Bella Flores, Zach Garcia, Brady Lambert, Rose Liu, Sam Thomas, Javon Organ, Hudson Pietsek, Mason Tidmore, and Jesse Walke (percussion ensemble); and Duke Decker, Einkauf, Lambert, Mattie Spaulding, Thomas, Tidmore, Traylor, Zachary Vann, Walke, and Nathan Wilson (percussion ensemble).

Qualifying for state by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 ensemble from Cooper were Brokovich, Chandler Dooley, Bracken Foster, Max Parker, Kai Rosario, Davian Sansom, and Wyatt (Percussion Ensemble 1); Coen Alexander, Bryant Campbell, Micah Gonzalez, Mia Grant, DeAngelo Johnson, Kason Rosario, Rolando Serrano, and Ben Weems (Percussion Ensemble 2); Liam Flores, Jessica Ovalle, and Gabriella Rodriguez (Flute Trio 2); and Jonathon Carranza, Derek Crespo, and Ian Quin-Wells (Trumpet Trio).

CLASS 1 SOLO – 1ST DIVISION RATING

Earning a first-division rating on a Class 1 solo from Abilene High were junior Adi Pilit (euphonium) and sophomore Mattie Spaulding (keyboard percussion).

Earning a first-division rating on a Class 1 solo from Cooper were sophomores Tristan Tardiff (oboe) and Carson Herring (tuba)

CLASS 2 SOLO – 1ST DIVISION RATING

Earning a first-division rating on a Class 2 solo from Cooper were sophomore Jack Boyd (trombone) and Brendan Moore (alto saxophone).

CLASS 2 ENSEMBLE – 1ST DIVISION RATING

Earning a first-division rating on a Class 2 ensemble from Cooper were sophomores Sierra Billiet, Avi Rodriguez, and Ella Schostag (Flute Trio 1).
