Three more Abilene ISD athletics teams completed their regular seasons last week, and four more will wrap up their regular season this week at the District 4-5A track and field meet at the Shotwell Annex. In addition, the baseball seasons at Cooper and Abilene High are heating up, while the softball regular seasons are winding down.

Here’s a wrapup of the previous week in Abilene ISD athletics and a look at what’s coming up for district teams:

SOFTBALL

Abilene High pitcher Diana Silva had a week to remember with back-to-back no-hitters against Wylie last Thursday, March 28, and at Cooper on Tuesday, April 2.

In the 2-0 win over Wylie, she allowed just one walk and struck out eight Lady Bulldogs, coming close to pitching a perfect game. In the no-hit win over the Lady Cougars, Silva walked two and struck out 13 in an 8-0 Abilene High victory. The Lady Eagles are now 16-11-1 overall and 5-3 in District 4-5A, third in the district behind Lubbock Cooper (7-1 in district play) and Lubbock Monterey (6-2 in district). The Lady Eagles are back in action Friday, April 5 at Lubbock Monterey before returning home to host Lubbock High next Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Cougars, meanwhile, are forging ahead after a challenging run. Cooper will play at Wylie on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and then host Lubbock Monterey next Friday, April 12 at home at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Cougars currently have a 10-18 overall record.
