ABILENE – Both Abilene High School and Cooper High School band students competed in the University Interscholastic League Region Solo and Ensemble competition on Saturday, February 27, 2021.  AISD had students advance to the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest which will be held virtually in May.

CLASS 1 SOLO – 1ST DIVISION RATING: Earning a first division rating on a Class 1 solo were Abilene High School band students Elizabeth Murphree (piccolo); Elizabeth Murphree (flute); Kate Voss (tenor sax); and Maxwell Kidd (tuba). Earning a first division rating on a Class 1 solo were Cooper High School band students Sebastian Tardiff (bassoon); Jaime Herrera and Cory Murillo (tenor sax); Emma Martinez (trumpet); and Maleah Hudson (french horn).

CLASS 2 SOLO – 1ST DIVISION RATING: Earning a first division rating on a Class 2 solo were Abilene High School band students Anna Grimaldo (flute); Rigby Samuels and Sydney Spell (clarinet); Katie Rogers (euphonium); and Joshua Melson and Samuel Thomas (percussion). Earning a first division rating on a Class 2 solo were Cooper High School band students Mario Alvarez and Jenna Herrera (trombone); and Caven Dooley (tuba).

STATE SOLO QUALIFIERS: Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo were Abilene High School band students Karissa Ward (clarinet); Courtney Molina (alto sax); Coleman Patterson (tenor sax); Adrian Fowlkes and William Marshall (trumpet); Brooke Garduno (horn); Gustavo Marquez (trombone); Mason Einkauf, Tate Eller, Zachary Garcia, Owen Horn, Mallory Traylor, Jesse Walke, and Nathan Wilson (percussion).

Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo were Cooper High School band students Owen Bailey (oboe); Eddie Stefan (bass clarinet); Isaac Lock (trumpet); Meredith Clancy, Aaron Reece, and John Tran (horn); Jacob Moore (trombone); Jacob Moore (euphonium); John David King (tuba); Aaron Brokovich, Tyler Cluck, Kylie Cox, Devonte Russell, Travis Waters (percussion).

STATE ENSEMBLE QUALIFIERS: Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 ensemble were Abilene High School band students Jocelyn Dyer, Emma Horn, Emma Pfrimmer, and Alexia Smith (flute); Hayden Forkner, Coleman Patterson, Summer Rektenwald, and Jacob Valdez (sax); Austin Arthur, Elias Barrera, Kierstyn Bell, and William Marshall (trumpet); Jackson Eller, Brooke Garduno, Micah George, and Ema Rodriguez (horn); and Tate Eller, Gabriel McCracken, Terrence Naldoza, Benjamin Neie, Mallory Traylor, and Nathan Wilson (percussion).

Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 ensemble were Cooper High School band students Jonathon Carranza, Christian Madden, Mack Summers, and Lucas Vinson (trumpet); and Ronald Alexander, Miller Bannister, Aaron Brokovich, Andrew Brokovich, Grayson Camp, Tyler Cluck, Kylie Cox, Bracken Foster, Michael Gonzalez, Jazmine Malazo, Kai Rosario, Devonte Russell, Travis Waters, and Benjamin Weems (percussion).

The Abilene ISD band students are under the direction of the following teachers:  Abilene High School:  Dr. Jon Kraemer, Tyler Jacks, and Christina Hurlbut; and Cooper High School:  Anthony Gibson, Jessica Fox, and Patrick Stevenson.
