As cold weather – mixed with the potential for ice and snow – hits Abilene, the Abilene community stands ready to help those who might need assistance during the next few days.

The community has several resources for residents to take advantage of if they are experiencing homelessness or unstable housing or a shortage of food during this winter weather event. Those resources include:

  • The Salvation Army, which will remain open during this event. Accommodations will be made to shelter and feed visitors when appropriate. The Salvation Army is located at 1726 Butternut Street in Abilene and they can be reached at 325-677-1408.
  • City Lights will remain open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4. In the event that AISD is closed either Thursday or Friday or both, they will re-evaluate their hours of operation. The Food Distribution Center is located at 336 Hickory Street and they can be reached at 673-6686.
  • And Love & Care Ministries will have its doors open from 6 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3. The ministry is located at 233 Fannin and they can be reached at 670-0246.
