This school year, 2022-23 is my 30th year to teach and my 22nd year to teach at Cooper High School.  I teach Intro. to Culinary Arts, which covers foundational information about culinary arts and the foodservice industry.  We will learn and follow safety and sanitation procedures when cooking.  We will also gain a better understanding about the foodservice industry this year in class.  Additionally, we will cover units that will include academic knowledge and skills for food service, history of foodservice, food preparation techniques, foodservice career exploration, leadership and employability skills. Class Expectations: Be on time, when late pick up a tardy pass on the way to class. Follow cell phone policy - phones should be on silent and out of sight, or flat on desk with screen facing downward during instruction.  Complete daily bell ringer at beginning of class (turn in every 2 weeks for a grade) and complete notes, written assignments and projects.                          Study and master tests, or re-take tests for a passing grade.  Tests on safety and sanitation must be mastered prior to cooking. Take responsibility for your learning, ask for help when needed, stay focused during lecture, work time and labs and participate appropriately in class. When not in class, check google classroom for assignments.  All assignments are posted on google classroom. Kitchen Expectations: Participate in cooking labs - 2 lab passes will be issued each semester and may be turned in for extra points if not used.  Follow safety procedures at all times - Safety will be enforced in all labs.
