Fine Arts

The Fine Arts Department of Mann has a “Tradition of Excellence” and it continues today.

You are invited to learn more about our wonderful students and teachers.

 Art

Mrs. Cavazos is our 7th grade and 8th grade art teacher. Her students have displayed their art in the school, The Grace Museum, The West Texas Fair and Rodeo, The Texas Secretary of the State’s Texas Register, The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers Scholastic Event, The Junior Visual Arts Scholastic Event, Youth Art Month at the Capitol in Austin, Governor’s Gallery in Austin, The Bryan Museum in Galveston and in the past, students have displayed their art in Abilene’s sister city in Greece.

Choir

Mann choirs are also continuing our “Tradition of Excellence”. The female advanced choir has won sweepstakes many times. This choir deserves very big congratulations.  Mrs. Murphey is our choir director.

Orchestra

Ms. Clark is our orchestra conductor.  The orchestras of Mann are hard at work. Mann orchestra students competed for spots in the All-City Orchestra and several students earned a placement.

The Mann Middle School Band, part of the Abilene Independent School District, is a CC campus of approximately 890 students. Band is a curricular course with certain extracurricular components. Band classes at Mann Middle School meet daily for approximately 45 minutes. Beginning Band classes meet in like-instrument groups focusing on fundamental performance techniques. Beginning classes offered include:

  • Flute
  • Oboe and Bassoon
  • Clarinet
  • Alto Saxophone
  • French Horn
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Euphonium and Tuba
  • Percussion

Students with a year or more of playing experience will be grouped into one of two full instrumented bands:

  • Symphonic Band is our varsity band
  • Concert Band is our non-varsity band

Supplemental instruction through private lessons is available for all students from a highly-qualified team of independently contracted expert private teachers.

Both the Symphonic and Concert bands participate in the University Interscholastic League Concert and Music Reading (Sightreading) Evaluation each year. In addition, all students are eligible and encouraged to participate in All-Region and Solo and Ensemble events.

Our philosophical mission is to provide every student with a positive, challenging, and relevant musical experience regardless of his or her level of proficiency.
