Welcome to Photography!

Art 2 Photo is an introductory course for the beginning photographer.  Students must take, and successfully complete, Art 1 before they are eligible to take the Photo 2 course.  The course introduces students to the history of photography, the camera (film/digital) and its operation, digital imaging software (Photoshop), composition, lighting, and a variety of non-traditional photography methods such as cyanotype and contact printing. The primary instruction focusses on using a digital SLR and editing images in Photoshop.  An emphasis on solving two-dimensional design issues is also a part of the curriculum.

Art 3 Photo is an extension course for students that have successfully completed Art 2 Photo.  The class reinforces the skills that students learned in Photo 2 by introducing them to more advanced photography and Photoshop techniques. It is also used to prepare students for the AP 2DDP (AP Photo) course. Film photography and darkroom processes may be introduced as well. The primary focus is on creating unique and interesting photography-based artwork.  An emphasis on solving two-dimensional design issues will be a part of the curriculum as well.

AP 2DDP (AP Photo) prepares students for the submission of an AP Portfolio to the College Board.  The course addresses a very broad interpretation of two-dimensional design issues.  Although it is a photography-based course, students may also be asked to work with a variety of other art forms such as graphic design, typography, digital imaging, collage, fabric design, weaving, illustration, painting and printmaking. AP 2DDP students are required to enter a variety of shows and competitions as a part of the course.
