Regional Day School For the Deaf

The Regional Day School for the Deaf serves hearing impaired children in the Region XIV Education Service Center area from the moment they are diagnosed as having a hearing loss. Children ages 0 – 2 1/2 years old are usually served in a home intervention program. Around age 2 1/2 to 3 years old the children enter a center-based program located on the LongĀ EC campus. When the children first start school our emphasis is on auditory training, which teaches them to listen and attach meaning to the sounds they hear. Classroom instruction also heavily emphasizes functional communication skills and language development . These children may also be mainstreamed into the general education program. Enrollment generally runs between 4-6 children each year.
If you feel your child might qualify for the Deaf Education Program please call Mark Grose, Lead Deaf Education Teacher, at 325-677-1444 ext 5450.
