My name is Gayla de la Vega and I am the school counselor at Ortiz Elementary. I have called Ortiz home since 2007. I was born in San Antonio, Texas, but was raised in Abilene. I attended Bowie, Jefferson and Cooper High Schools. I earned my B.S. in Behavioral Science at Hardin-Simmons University and my M.Ed. from Sul Ross State University. I am married to Tim and together we have three children, Nick, Keith, and Aaryn along with two granddaughters, Victoria and Dani.
I feel that my role as the school counselor is to help your child be the very best they can be. I teach guidance lessons to all grade levels concerning Character Education topics, individual counseling for students who need help at school, and small group counseling for topics such as friendship skills or self-esteem.
