Welcome to Austin Elementary – Home of the Raiders!

My name is Clay Johnson and I am the principal at Austin Elementary School. I am very excited to serve the Austin community in this role and look forward to a great school year!

I am originally from Oklahoma, but have lived in Abilene for the last 20 years and have been an educator for the Abilene Independent School District during that time. The first two years of my career, I was an assistant band director at Cooper High School. In 2005, I was named the Director of Bands at Cooper High School where I served in that position for 14 years. After transitioning to administration, I spent two wonderful years at Bowie Elementary as an assistant principal and one year as an assistant principal at Abilene High School.

At Austin Elementary, our motto is: Great happens here! It is our mission to serve the students in the Austin community and to provide them with the most outstanding elementary education that Abilene has to offer. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students and we work hard each day to ensure that across the entire campus. Academic excellence and attendance are also top priorities at Austin. We emphasize regular daily attendance and invite you to celebrate with us throughout the year as our students exceed our expectations.

My door is always open and I look forward to connecting with you this year!

Austin Mission Statement: Our purpose is to have our teachers, families, and community be actively involved in our students’ lives so they can: Be here to learn, Learn to lead, and Lead EVERYWHERE!
