Student Services
The Leadership & Student Services Department is committed to supporting all students and families in Abilene ISD. Our goal is to provide customer service to our families for any questions or concerns they may have related to our district or a particular campus. The various components of the Leadership & Student Services department include transfers, discipline support, expulsions, complaints, grievances, behavior support, classroom management training, behavior and therapeutic classrooms, and community outreach.
One of the major initiatives launched by the student services department is the district-wide training of all teachers and staff in Safe and Civil Schools classroom management and school-building management strategies. The first main component of Safe and Civil Schools is the CHAMPS/DSC (Discipline in the Secondary Classroom) programs, which help classroom teachers learn pro-active strategies to help students learn how to behave appropriately in school, as opposed to immediately punishing students for misbehaving. The second main component of Safe and Civil Schools is the Foundations program, which teaches principals and their campus Foundations teams how to manage the common areas of a school building (hallways, restrooms, cafeterias).
