General Pay Increase

A General Pay Increase (GPI) is a pay increase applied to everyone in your pay grade or your job family equally. In school districts, the GPI is calculated as a percentage of the midpoint on the salary range. An employee who earns less than the pay grade midpoint will receive a higher raise in relation to his/her actual pay than employees whose pay is higher than the midpoint.

Bus Driver A and Bus Driver B receive the same increase per hour, but Bus Driver A gets a greater percent increase.

See how the examples below show Bus Driver A received a 2.3 percent increase, and Bus Driver B received a 1.9 percent increase. Both employees received 2 percent of the midpoint added to their hourly wage, but each individual driver’s percent of increase is different as it relates to his/her own personal hourly wage.

Math Calculation:
