Clinical Teaching and Observation

The Abilene Independent School District offers cooperative teachers the opportunity to share their vast knowledge and expertise in the area of teaching and instruction with clinical teachers (student teachers), interns, and observers from our partnering universities, colleges, alternative certification programs, and other teacher preparation programs.

Requests for Observations

Universities and alternative certification entities wishing to observe in an Abilene ISD classroom must complete the following steps:

  • Contact Joy Wiggins (joy.wiggins@abileneisd.org).
  • Provide a syllabus or letter from the certification program stating that observation hours are required.
  • Complete the online volunteer application (when filling out the application, please choose “New Volunteer”).
  • Once your background check is complete, you will receive a notification through email of the completion and can reach out to the campus of your choice to request observation hours (email the campus principal, assistant principal, and/or instructional coordinator/facilitator).
  • Once approved, observers must provide an official government ID, including licenses and ID cards, upon entry into the school to have a visitor’s pass printed at the front office.
