Clinical Teaching

The Office of Instructional Learning offers effective teachers the opportunity to share their vast knowledge and expertise in the area of teaching and instruction with clinical teachers, interns and observers from our partnering universities, colleges, alternative certification programs, and other teacher preparation programs.

Alternative Certification Request to Observe

Anyone wishing to OBSERVE in an Abilene ISD classroom must complete the following steps:

  • Sign and date the DPS form
  • Complete, sign, and date the Criminal History form
  • Obtain a syllabus or letter from the certification program stating that observation hours are required
  • Submit the three forms either in person to Ross Thomas at One AISD Center, 201 Pine St., or electronically to ross.thomas@abileneisd.org

People wishing to observe who are currently enrolled in a local university program should see their university professor about arranging observation hours.

Alternative Certification Request to Clinically Teach

Anyone wishing to STUDENT TEACH in an Abilene ISD classroom must complete the following steps:

  • Sign and date the DPS form
  • Complete, sign, and date the Criminal History form
  • Submit the two forms either in person to Ross Thomas at One AISD Center, 201 Pine St., or electronically to ross.thomas@abileneisd.org
  • Ask the Alternative Certification Program to submit a request for placement to Ross Thomas.
  • Download the BCTC Clinical Teaching Handbook for your reference

People wishing to clinically teach who are currently enrolled in a local university program should see their university professor about arranging for a clinical teaching placement.
